what is left of my innocence

I originally intended for this piece to be a large bowl with four deer busts on it. I had not worked with my new recipe for clay however, and it is not good with small detail, I also have not worked with such small detail as the antlers before. So, this was an exploration on many levels.
When the bowl came out of the kiln and one side had popped off, and still other parts were not as I had expected them to turn out, it was hard at first to accept the piece.

After leaving the bowl and coming back to it after a couple months, I like it again and invite the viewer to question if this piece really is ruined. I mean, sure it is unevenly sided, but the idea is still clear and most of it is still there. that is why I named it, what is left of my innocence. I wanted to address that the piece is missing parts, but most of it is still there.

I spy a wolf's eye

This bad boy is the product of wanting to get myself out of working small. Everything I make I have a personal connection to... this time I made a wolf thinking I had no connection to it or personal story behind it, but connections came as the piece grew. People would feel the need to tell me their own connections and stories about wolves. This in turn gave me my own story. I played around with this piece a lot. I liked the idea of the lion and the lamb, but I did not want it to be so cliche. So, I did my own interpretation of peace, and went with a wolf and a birds nest.

If I were a Three Tiered Cake Plate

I think the view from the top might be my favorite.

I working with the warped effect that the kiln gave me on the bottom layer, I continued to build following the topsy turvy, style that nature had started.

If I were a three tiered cake plate I would be this one. I have heard that self portraiture is inevitable in ones work... Looking at this creation of mine, I think that this theory must be true.

boyfriend

I found this little guy in a thrift store and spiced him up a little by adding some flowers to his hair (which seem to be invisible in this picture because they are yellow and his hair is pretty close to yellow....maybe not the best choice) and a personal message to his song. Now he serenades me everyday with his music and poetry.
